New Year Ride 2008

The traditional New Year Ride and Downhill Freewheel Challenge took place on Sunday 13th January. Some 30 members turned out in uncertain weather to enjoy stretch there legs around the town and to see if they could grab the coveted downhill title.

Topping up the tanks on coffee, biscuits and chocolates before the start was just the order and after a brief photo call where we went for an attempt on our own version of the penny(penny-less!) stack. The general idea is that everyone supports each other - it sort of worked!

The weather decided to be good to us and despite a stiff breeze the ride out around the town was quite pleasant. We passed an interesting flyer on the way around and couldn't resist a picture (see below) The headline does have serious side as it reported on a cyclist caught on camera carrying a young child on his shoulders whilst cycling in Peterborough. The article is here. MVVCC condemns this irresponsible behaviour.

We stopped off on the bridge for the downhill challenge which was hotly contested.
